Man of the Match: Henry Green
Following a two-week break, and a full month without a competitive fixture the U16B’s were straight into action in their match against Bowbrook. After an understandably scrappy first ten minutes Malvern started to find their passes and began to exploit the space out wide. The first try, scored by Woody Shaw in the corner was a superb example of team play and set the tone for some outstanding rugby throughout the game. It was certainly not all one-way however, and after a bustling individual charge to the line from Seb Roberts, Bowbrook scored a try in the corner to take the score to 10-5. Just before half time, Malvern extended were awarded a penalty and some quick thinking from Henry Green set up Jay Yang drive over the try line.
Malvern made changes at half time and it was great to see Adam Narbeth return to the side after a long layoff with injury. He marked his return with a superb finish to some excellent team play, going in under the posts, was even more fitting. Throughout the second half the forwards worked tirelessly and Henry Green did a great job of choosing the right time to send the ball wide. Strong running and well-timed passes from Woody Shaw and Will Brinkman in particular created space out wide for others, allowing Antoine Sclater and Jonty Horton to score two further tries. Handling was generally excellent and it was really encouraging to see the quality of the tackling improve as the match went on.
Malvern won the game 32-5 and are looking forward to the forthcoming fixture against Dean Close.
