On Thursday afternoon, our U18 girls played out a keenly anticipated match against the Indian girls' team which is part of the OSCAR Foundation. In front of a large crowd, the Indian girls impressed with their ball skills and Barcelona-style short passing game. Undaunted, the U18s, playing together for the first time, competed strongly throughout the match. After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the U18s came back with a goal early in the second half from Cate Mercurio and this made for a very keen contest. Ultimately, the OSCAR girls’ much greater match experience took its toll and they added three more goals.
For the U18s, both Cate Mercurio and Megan Jones made extremely impressive debuts, Millie Page made a string of fine saves in goal, Savanna Desmarquest, Beatrice Barnes and Hannah Taylor all defended tirelessly and Esther Woods was outstanding in midfield and our player of the match.
