England Hockey U16’s Tier 1 cup – Round 1

Malvern College v Redmaids school
Match result: 5-2 (Loss)
Scorers: Jemima Martyn-Smyth and Jasmine Ellis
Players of the match: Heather Harris and Kinvara Clarke

For the first time this term Malvern played an U16 team in the England Hockey Cup with the majority of the team being U15. The game started quite evenly with both teams having attacking opportunities, but Malvern started to take the upper hand and went 1-0 up through Jemima Martyn-Smyth who finished off a 1 on 1 with the Redmaids goalkeeper. The lead was short lived as Redmaids equalised through a short corner. For the remaining half Redmaids dominated through one key player who was outstanding in midfield. The score line at half time remained 1-1, but soon after the half Redmaids began to open up Malvern, scoring four goals in a short period of time. Malvern kept up the hard work and once again started to get back into the match creating a few more chances before Jasmine Ellis fired home from the edge of the circle.

The match ended 5-2 and we move into the plate competition. The girls have learnt a lot from this match and will be stronger for it moving forwards. We wish Redmaids all the best in the next round of the cup.
